Q&A With Zukies Photos 1

Alison Perez, or better known in the art world as Miss Zukie is the visual artist  who is the creator behind Zukies.

Zukies are “mysterious creatures that do not talk” who communicates through “thought bubbles and facial expressions.” Miss Zukie’s love of art began at the age of 6 when she started drawing Pokemon characters. I’ve had the pleasure to learn more about the artist and creator in a brief Q&A session.

Q&A With Zukies Photos 2When was the birth of Zukie? How did the idea come about, and when did you know that you were going to continuously create this character?

Miss Zukie: Zukies where born in 2010. The idea came about when I took a trip to Florida and stopped by a gallery. An artist work inspired me greatly, the artist is Fabio Nepoleoni. His character inspired me to create my own. I didn’t have the slightest idea of what it was going to look like but that’s how Zukies came alive.

Do you feel like there is a lot of your personality in the characters? Do you paint to what your mood is for that day?

Zukies have so many different personalities and I definitely think my character symbolizes me just a little because I’m a Gemini I have split personalities haha. I usually doodle what my current mood or what I’m doing at the moment. As for my paintings it’s just random ideas that come to mind.

Some Artists are protective over their creations, but you like to teach how to make your characters and embrace Fan Art. Why is this important to you?

I find sharing your talent important because it helps you grow as an artist. Embracing fan art is most important to me because just thinking that I inspire so many you artist, it just fills my heart with joy.

You have your murals plastered all over the city, Zukie toys circulating, as well as countless paintings/drawings… Is there any one thing that you do is your favorite or gets you more excited than the others? Why?

I would have to say working on a mural has to be my favorite. Working on an enormous scale is fucking amazing.

Q&A With Zukies Photos 5Speaking on all the different iterations of Zukie, is there any different format we will see Zukie in the future?

I’m not sure if I get a cool idea I usually go for it.

Is there any advice you can give any artist out there to help them build their brand/characters?

I would tell them to never give up and always draw what ever comes to mind every idea that comes up make sure to write it down.

Where can we see Zukie in the near future?

Hopefully we see Zukies on TV!
